and triglycerides. I t has also been shown increase HDL cholesterol.
Green tea should be considered as a part of most anti aging diets.
But be warned, Green Tea should not be used in patients who are receiving bortezomib, a chemotherapy agent used to treat multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma.
Green Tea has a nominal adverse side effect profile with most of the side effects being associated with its caffeine content. These include gastrointestinal upset, insomnia, and irritability.

Getting Rid of Crow's Feet WITHOUT Expensive Creams - Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Reno NV

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
"Scientists tested the efficacy of oral supplements astaxanthin, a well known remedy against wrinkles with a patented Rose Hip powder, Hyben Vital®, which is made from the seeds and shells of Rosa canina, on cell senescence, skin wrinkling, and aging." The results are statistically significant.
"A total of 34 healthy subjects, aged 35-65 years, with wrinkles on the face (crow's-feet) were subjected to a randomized and double-blinded clinical study of the effects of the rose hip powder, as compared to astaxanthin. During the 8-week study, half of the participants ingested the standardized rose hip product, while the other half ingested astaxanthin.
Objective measurements of facial wrinkles, skin moisture, and elasticity were made by at the beginning of the study, after 4 weeks, and after 8 weeks. Evaluation of participant satisfaction of both supplements was assessed using questionnaires.
cia-10-1849Fig1
See Source Below.
In addition, the effect of the rose hip preparation on cell longevity was measured in terms of leakage of hemoglobin through red cell membranes (hemolytic index) in blood samples kept in a blood bank for 5 weeks. Significance of all values was attained with P≤0.05.
In the double-blinded study, the rose hip group showed statistically significant improvements in crow's-feet wrinkles (P<0.05), skin moisture (P<0.05), and elasticity (P<0.05) after 8 weeks of treatment.
A similar improvement was observed for astaxanthin, with P-values 0.05, 0.001, and 0.05. Likewise, both groups expressed equal satisfaction with the results obtained in their self-assessment. The rose hip powder further resulted in increased cell longevity of erythrocyte cells during storage for 5 weeks in a blood bank.
The results suggest that intake of the standardized rose hip powder Hyben Vital® improves aging-induced skin conditions. The apparent stabilizing effects of the rose hip product on cell membranes of stored erythrocyte cells observed in this study may contribute to improve the cell longevity and obstructing skin aging."
Cell longevity is essential for good aging.
According to WebMD, the side effects and safety are:
Rose hip is LIKELY SAFE for adults when taken by mouth appropriately. Rose hip is POSSIBLY SAFE when applied to the skin appropriately, short-term.
Rose hip can cause some side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, stomach cramps, fatigue, headache, inability to sleep, and others. Inhaling rose hip dust can cause an allergic reaction in some people.

Special Precautions & Warnings:

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: There is not enough reliable information about the safety of taking rose hip if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid using amounts larger than those found in food.
Bleeding conditions: Rugosin E, a chemical found in rose hip, might slow blood clotting. Taking rose hip might increase the risk of bleeding in people with bleeding disorders.
Diabetes: The vitamin C in rose hip might affect the control of diabetes, but not all experts agree on this.
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency): Large amounts of the vitamin C in rose hip might increase the risk of complications.
Kidney stones: Large amounts of the vitamin C in rose hop might increase the risk for kidney stones.
Iron-related disorders such as hemochromatosis, thalassemia, or anemia: Use rose hip with caution if you have any of these conditions. The vitamin C in rose hip can increase iron absorption, which could make your condition worse.
Sickle cell disease: It is rare, but the vitamin C in rose hip might make blood more acidic, and this could bring on a sickle cell crisis. It’s best to avoid use.
Surgery: Rugosin E, a chemical found in rose hip, might slow blood clotting. There is concern that rose hip might cause bleeding if used before surgery. People taking rose hip should stop at least 2 weeks before surgery."
The HARF does not endorse any specific products.

Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Licorice for Anti Aging and Alzheimer's? - Reno NV

OPINION: Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
Licorice is an 18α-GA food. And 18α-GA foods have a major effect on anti aging programs.
This is the first report of the use of "18α-GA, a diet-derived compound as prolongevity and antiaggregation factor in the context of a multicellular organism." The study abstract below has been copied word for word from the National Institutes of Public Health.
Translated into simple English the study means: Eat some "real" BLACK licorice for better health and anti aging including potentially slowing Alzheimer's disease.

18α-Glycyrrhetinic Acid Proteasome Activator Decelerates Aging and

Alzheimer's Disease Progression in Caenorhabditis elegans and Neuronal Cultures.

"AIMS:
Proteasomes are constituents of the cellular proteolytic networks that maintain protein homeostasis through regulated proteolysis of normal and abnormal (in any way) proteins. Genetically mediated proteasome activation in multicellular organisms has been shown to promote longevity and to exert protein antiaggregation activity. In this study, we investigate whether compound-mediated proteasome activation is feasible in a multicellular organism and we dissect the effects of such approach in aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression.

RESULTS:

Feeding of wild-type Caenorhabditis elegans with 18α-glycyrrhetinic acid (18α-GA; a previously shown proteasome activator in cell culture) results in enhanced levels of proteasome activities that lead to a skinhead-1- and proteasome activation-dependent life span extension. The elevated proteasome function confers lower paralysis rates in various AD nematode models accompanied by decreased Aβ deposits, thus ultimately decelerating the progression of AD phenotype. More importantly, similar positive results are also delivered when human and murine cells of nervous origin are subjected to 18α-GA treatment.

INNOVATION:

This is the first report of the use of 18α-GA, a diet-derived compound as prolongevity and antiaggregation factor in the context of a multicellular organism.

CONCLUSION:

Our results suggest that proteasome activation with downstream positive outcomes on aging and AD, an aggregation-related disease, is feasible in a nongenetic manipulation manner in a multicellular organism. Moreover, they unveil the need for identification of antiagingand antiamyloidogenic compounds among the nutrients found in our normal diet. Antioxid. Redox Signal. 00, 000-000."

Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Phytochemicals, Caloric Restriction and Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo  775-870-6942
Aging is a well-known and perhaps inevitable process that is influenced by genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors. All factors effecting healthy aging are not known at this time. However, it is my opinion that over 90% of what is known today can increase human lifespan well past the century mark with continued good health.
The exact mechanisms underlying the aging process are not well understood.
.
The reduction of free radicals, low-grade inflammation and the promotion of intra-cellular health by calorie restriction or other dietary manipulation can extend lifespan in a wide spectrum of model organisms.
Additionally, recent studies show that some food-derived small molecules, called phytochemicals, can extend lifespan in various animal species.

Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Eat Less. Live Longer. - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
If you eat less you generally lose weight. But could eating less lengthen your life span?
The answer is probably yes. Caloric restriction is known to extend the lifespan of most organisms that science has studied which may indicate that nutrient and energy regulation has a major impact on aging.
It turns out that caloric restriction modifies our cells and since the greatest risk factor for aging is neurodegeneration it is thought that caloric restriction modifies progressive cell death.
I think I'll be skipping a few meals here and there.

Dr Ken Romeo - Protect Your Eyes. Exercise! - Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
Retinal cells become increasingly vulnerable to injury as we get older.

Scientists recently showed that the vulnerability to eye injury and retinal protection could be modified with exercise.
In middle-aged mice models, they found that exercise protected against dysfunction and cell loss after an acute injury induced by elevation of intraocular pressure.
Who would have thought that exercise could be good for the eyes?

Dr Ken Romeo - DHEA, Testosterone and Exercise Capacity - Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION: Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is the most abundant sex steroid. It is a precursor hormone used by athletes for performance enhancement as it can increase testosterone levels.
The potential effects of DHEA supplementation combined with exercise training on body composition, exercise performance, and hormone regulation are currently unclear.
Natural protocols in anti aging science do not work overnight, but they do work! In a recent study, six-week DHEA supplementation alone significantly increased body weight, muscle weight, testosterone level, and glycogen contents (liver and muscle) in mice.
ergo-log
ergo-log.com Difference between placebo and DHEA supplementation on testosterone levels
DHEA supplementation alone had no negative impact on all tissue and biochemical profiles, but could not improve exercise performance which is strange. Although DHEA supplementation alone had no beneficial effect in the exercise performance of mice, the body weight, testosterone level and glycogen content significantly increased.
Perhaps given more time, the exercise levels would have improved. DHEA supplementation is usually an important part of any anti aging program for men.
As a parting thought, exercise in the short term may decrease the DHEA supplements absorptive capacity. A long study is necessary as testosterone levels did increase which usually equate to better exercise performance. Remember, natural anti aging and performance enhancing programs work....but they take time. In my experience, the lack of negative side effects far outweighs the risk of direct testosterone injections.

Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Reno NV - A Fruit to Reduce the Signs of Skin Aging that Really Works!

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
A clinical study was recently conducted to determine whether oral supplementation with a fermented papaya preparation (FPP-treated group) or an antioxidant cocktail (antioxidant-control group, composed of 10 mg trans-resveratrol, 60 µg selenium, 10 mg vitamin E and 50 mg vitamin C) was able to improve the skin antioxidant capacity and the expression of key skin genes, while promoting skin anti aging effects.
The study enrolled 60 healthy non-smoker males and females aged 40-65 years, all of whom showed clinical signs of skin aging. The subjects were randomly divided into two
pap

matched groups, and were administered Papaya or the antioxidant treatment of a 4.5 g/day sachet sublingually twice a day for 90 days in a double-blind fashion.
The parameters investigated were: Skin surface, brown spots, skin evenness, skin moisturization, elasticity (face), redox balance, nitric oxide (NO) concentration, and the expression levels of key genes (outer forearm sample).
As compared with the baseline (day 0) and antioxidant-control values, PAPAYA-treated subjects showed a significant improvement in skin evenness, moisturization and elasticity.
This finding suggests that orally-administered FPP showed a consistent biological and gene-regulatory improvement in the skin, as has also demonstrated in previous experimental and clinical trials testing other tissues, while common oral antioxidants had only a minor effect.

Dr Ken Romeo - Men Aren't Mice - Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
News Flash! Humans are neither mice nor invertebrates!
Over the past number of years, a growing amount of studies and discoveries have shown that genetic, pharmacological, and nutritional interventions increase the lifespan of invertebrates and laboratory rodents. But what about humans?
publicdomainimage.jpg
publicdomianimage.com
Anti aging interventions are no longer a dream. They are a reality.
However we need more information than just age and lifespan to evaluate the potential of any proposed anti aging intervention to humans.
As we look at lengthening lifespan, what are the health/physiological implications? How is the quality of life affected with an increased lifespan? Not easy questions but necessary ones.
HARF encourages scientists, investigators and reviewers alike to consider not just increased lifespan, but also increased health along with lifespan.
It is important that investigators indicate any tests in which the treated group did worse from the controls because the assessment of overall health is tricky at best from a clinical perspective.
Nothing discovered to date improves every aspect of health.
Finally, we strongly recommend that functional measurements be performed in both males and females so that sex differences in the rate of functional decline in different sexes are taken into consideration.

Taking Control of PMS - Dr Ken Romeo - Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
Anti Aging sciences can be a challenging career when helping women going through
pms-concept-premenstrual-syndrome-words-white-color-cloud-red-words-orange-background-35185569
dreamstime.com
Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). Medical statistics show that PMS is reported by up to 85% of women of reproductive age.
Can anything be done to help these women? Here's what current science tells us:
Factors negatively affecting PMS are:
  1. Prolactin levels are elevated (take Vitamin B6)
  2. Triglyceride levels are elevated (cut sugar consumption and eat a low fat diet)
  3. HDL levels are low (eat fish, flax, nuts, legumes, beans)
  4. Hydroxyprogesterone levels are low (low fat diet - less than 15% of calories from fat)
  5. BMI is higher (lose weight via low fat diet)
Remember this: The newest models for predicting horrible PMS cycles show that, after adjusting for age and body mass index (BMI), linear regression analysis demonstrated that for every one unit increase in PMS score there was 12% rise in the probability of having metabolic syndrome. Code = lose weight or your PMS is worse!
The conclusion can only be that those women who have the lowest BMI have the least PMS symptoms.

Dr Ken Romeo – Anti Aging – Garlic and Your Health – Reno Nevada

OPINION: Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
So your anti aging program includes taking garlic (Allium sativum) for its health benefits? Hippocrates would be proud! So am I!

all-free-download

Garlic may have blood pressure lowering effects. Other studies have shown that an increase in dietary garlic consumption may be associated with a decreased risk for stomach and colorectal cancer.
However, the exact effects of garlic on both cardiovascular disease and cancer risk are still unclear.
Remember, consuming garlic comes with some very real risks. High doses of garlic prolongs bleeding time so it should be discontinued 7-10 days before surgery. Make sure to tell your surgeon about your use of garlic!

Dr Ken Romeo - Rutin. Skin Savior or Scam? - Anti Aging - Reno Nevada

OPINION:  Dr Ken Romeo   775-870-6942
Rutin, a quercetin glycoside is a member of the bioflavonoid family which is known to possess antioxidant properties. It can be purchased in tablet or cream form on the internet and in stores.
In a recent study, scientists aimed to confirm the anti‑aging effects of rutin on human dermal fibroblasts and human skin.
To examine the effects of rutin in vivo, rutin‑containing cream was applied to human skin. A double-blind clinical study was conducted in 40 subjects aged between 30-50 years and divided into control and experimental groups.
They examined the effects of rutin using a cell viability assay, senescence-associated-β-galactosidase assay, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and by measuring free radical scavenging activity in vitro.
The test material was applied for 4 weeks. After 2 and 4 weeks, dermal density, skin elasticity, the length and area of crow's feet, and number of under-eye wrinkles following the application of either the control or the rutin-containing cream were analyzed.
Bottom line: Rutin increased the mRNA expression of collagen, type I, alpha 1 (COL1A1) and decreased the mRNA expression of matrix metallopeptidase 1 (MMP1) in HDFs.
The study verified that ROS scavenging activity was stimulated by rutin in a dose‑dependent manner and it identified that rutin exerted protective effects under conditions of oxidative stress.
Furthermore, rutin increased skin elasticity and decreased the length, area and number of wrinkles. The consequences of human aging are primarily visible on the skin, such as increased wrinkling, sagging and decreased elasticity. Overall, this study demonstrated the biological effects of rutin on ROS-induced skin aging.
According to WebMD, "RUTIN Side Effects & Safety: Rutin is LIKELY SAFE when taken by mouth in amounts found in fruits and vegetables. Rutin is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth appropriately in medicinal amounts for a short period of time. It can cause some side effects including headacheflushingrashes, or stomach upset."
The HARF does not endorse any specific Rutin products.

There is no greater reward for a physician than to have their patients get healthy and watch them look and feel younger. Slowing, stopping and reversing the progression of cardiovascular, arthritis and diabetes is a reward unlike any other.
The advantage of seeing a professional anti aging practitioner is not only the custom results that become obvious very quickly, but also (given a knowledgeable practitioner) the client saves money by not purchasing marginally effective anti aging products.
Here’s an example:
Exfoliants not only help remove dead skin cells that weigh down and suffocate aging skin, but also stimulate the production of Glycosaminoglycans***, improve skin moisture, and boost the activity of skin-protecting antioxidants.
Exfoliants range in price from super cheap (which may be too harsh) to, “Honey, we need to take a second mortgage on our house to buy my anti aging products!”
I have found that the most effective – and cheapest – way to exfoliate the skin is to use regular aspirin tablets. (Don’t buy enteric coated aspirin for exfoliation. A bottle of 500 aspirin will cost you less than $10 and will last for up to a year depending on how many times you exfoliate your skin)
In a small amount of warm water, crush five 325mg aspirin tablets to create a paste, and then spread on your face and neck. Allow it to dry before rinsing it off with a soft washcloth.
Aspirin is not only an anti-inflammatory, but the salicylic acid in aspirin loosens dead skin, revealing fresher, softer skin. Exfoliation with aspirin is recommended to be used no more than once per week.
Exfoliation with aspirin works! It’s cost effective. It’s powerful.

BE SURE TO CHECK A SMALL PART OF YOUR BODY WITH THIS MIXTURE PRIOR TO USING IT ON YOUR FACE AND NECK.

BE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONAL PRIOR TO USE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE ON BLOOD THINNING MEDICATIONS.

Yours in Health!

***Glycosaminoglycans: A family of carbohydrates that help with the maintenance and support of collagen and elastin.
Glycosaminoglycans primary role is to maintain and support collagen, elastin and turgidity (bounce) in the cellular spaces and keep protein fibers in balance and proportion. It also promotes the ability of the collagen and elastin fibers to retain moisture, therefore remaining soluble. In skin care products, they are essential to the epidermal & dermal cells metabolism and keeping the collagen and elastin of the skin in good condition. Glycosaminoglycans are important in the reaction of copper peptides to help repair wrinkles and scarring. Known as the water reserve of the viable epidermis and dermis, these carbohydrates are dependent on fluid intake. Glycosaminoglycans are also linked to the lymphatic system. (Source: PUBMED & WIKIPEDIA)
