Introducing a new drug to the market is a time-consuming and expensive process due to FDA regulations. Discovering new uses for old drugs benefits patients by providing them time-tested drugs that have an established safety profile. Many are generic so they are

cost effective for the patient.
Developments in insulin therapy are ongoing. It's worth keeping up to date on trends in the use of this powerful glucose-lowering drug.
The purpose of this article is to explore the potential non-diabetic clinical applications of insulin.
The HARF performed an exhaustive literature search which was carried out through various scientific journals regarding the diverse applications of insulin other than in diabetes mellitus. The applications listed below include other potential therapeutic uses of insulin.
Upon studying the literature, the non-diabetic uses of insulin at a minimum include the following:
  • Cancer treatment
  • Wound healing
  • Anti aging
  • Cardioprotective  in acute coronary syndromes
  • Organ preservation
  • Bodybuilding
  • Parenteral nutrition
  • Management of septic shock
  • Critical illnesses requiring the Intensive Care Unit
Any off-label use of insulin needs to be done only under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Yours in Health!
